Get on Track with NASA Utah
“There’s something for every driver”
NASA Utah’s HPDE are a way for you to take your street car on a race track, and learn all about High Performance driving. HPDE is a 4 step system targeted at increasing your driving skills, and enjoyment in a controlled environment.
- Register for a NASA Utah Event and Become a NASA Member
Visit nasautah.com to view the 2026 Season Schedule and access registration links for each event. Click on the event you want to register for.
On the event page, scroll down and Select HPDE 1 and which day or days you want to drive. During checkout you’ll also need to add a 1 Year Membership, you’ll need this to run our events. Membership is $79 per year and includes a variety of exclusive benefits—check them out here.
In HPDE 1 you’ll be paired with an experienced instructor who will coach you through learning both car control and driver awareness. You’ll cover fundamentals such as corner approach, proper racing line, gear selection, braking technique, and corner exit. Sessions typically include a lead-follow format, and passing is strictly limited in HPDE 1. - Prepare for Your Track Day
All you need is a safe vehicle and a helmet. (No helmet? Rentals are available at the track.) Your car doesn’t need to be high-performance—drivers bring everything from a Hyundai to a Ferrari. - Complete Your Tech Inspection
Your car must pass a technical inspection before going on track. Inspections are available at our tech station when you arrive, and you can also stop by on Friday to avoid the rush.
OEM safety equipment will pass inspection. Aftermarket safety equipment must meet standards outlined in the Club Codes & Regulations. Please download and print the NASA tech form ahead of time and complete only the top section (name and vehicle information). - Review the Event Schedule and Driver Packet
The full race weekend schedule and Driver Packet will be emailed and published by the Wednesday prior to the event. - Questions?

HPDE is a ladder that you work your way up as you gain car control, speed and experience!
Start Here –> HPDE 1 – You’ll receive guidance from experienced instructors in both a classroom and via one-on-one instruction in your car. For safety, passing areas are very restricted in HPDE 1. If this is your first day with NASA Utah, this is where you’ll want to start.
HPDE 2 – Your instructor has determined you can drive on your own with less supervision. You apply what you learned in the Group 1 sessions for more practice. Passing areas are still limited.
HPDE 3 – You have progressed to the world of high performance driving. The passing rules in HPDE 3 are not as strict. You must learn to share the track at high speeds with others.
HPDE 4 – No passing restrictions, except those of good judgment and rules of the road etiquette, apply. You and your peers are now experiencing the joys of doing it right in a relatively safe and controlled environment!
